Achint

Expect the unexpected..

So we bought Achint's debut album called 'Shalimar' and it's brilliant right from the get go. I'm not saying it cause I don't have the right words to describe it, well actually I don't, because the album is a freaking 'tadka' of sounds. Sounds ranging from Electronica to Indian Classical, Hip-Hop, Sufi and a weird Bollywood meets Christopher Nolan vibe.

It is very difficult to categorise a genre for this album, the simplest way to put it would be 'Dance' which is as honest as you can get because listening to this album may cause involuntary body movements. So don't tell me you weren't warned.

Achint is one of the many talented musicians out there challenging norms and breaking sound barriers for all those around him, Many know him from his days of fronting 'Rosemary', a progressive psychedelic rock trio which won many awards and also opened for 'Porcupine Tree' in IIT Mumbai. The short lived band had Suraj Manik on bass and Aditya Ashok on drums leaving everyone wishing for more than just an album.

'Shalimar' covers Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' which is hauntingly calm and infused with beats and a flute journey which consumes you completely. This album is a mix of many many sounds, which is so progressive yet so influenced by the past.

This album is an absolute gem and is a top top album for anyone with an open mind to music or anyone who wants a break from whatever he/she has been listening to for the last couple of years. The album is also a slap on the face of ANYONE who thinks there's no good music out there and the music scene in India is boring/non creative/monotonous

Lastly I wish Achint all the very best.
