Teeen

Had the pleasure to talk to Mr Imam Hamdani, guitarist/producer based in New York. In 2012 he was featured on a national television music program, drawing attention and acclaim from industry professionals and audiences alike, which led to his first tour the same year.  The following year Imam released his first single ‘Barishon Mein’ with 'Teeen' that received over 100,000 plays on SoundCloud and a South Asian music award nomination.
Musicmandir - Please introduce the band for our readers and how did you end up on the name 'teeen'?
Teeen - So Teeen came about in 2012. Ahsan and I had been playing music since high school. During that time i had written most of the music we’ve released - Barishon Mein, Mona and Woh Bolay. We needed a singer- we met Sara Haider in college in Karachi and she was the missing piece. Ever since we havent looked back.
 
Musicmandir - Was it always an intention to sing in Hindi or does it come naturally?
Teeen - So I've always found it easy to write in Urdu/Hindi. Lately I've started writing in english too but Urdu feels more natural.
 
Musicmandir - Can you let us into the process of how you actually end up writing your songs?
Teeen - Our process for songwriting is different each time. Usually the initial idea for the song is brought on by one of us and then we work on the arrangement together.

Musicmandir - How would you describe the music scene in Karachi? Any local favourite artists?
Teeen - Karachi has a pretty diverse music scene. A lot of good music coming out of there and from Pakistan in general last few years. Off the top of my head i would say Natasha Ejaz is someone worth checking out.
 
Musicmandir - Is there a plan to release an EP / Album anytime?
Teeen - We’re building up to an album. We recently put out our 4th single Ja Ba Ja.
 
Musicmandir - Do you have any favourite artists from across the border in India? 
Teeen - I personally listen to a lot of Indian classical music. Favourites- Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shashank Subramanyam to name a few.
